Privacy
Most people never need a Vistu account. Your playlists, logins and viewing stay on your device. The only time we hold anything about you is when you use a Fire TV licence, and then only what’s needed to run it.
The apps
- No account on phones, tablets, Apple TV or Google TV. You don’t sign up or give us your name or email to use Vistu there.
- Your sources stay on your device. Playlist and guide addresses and Xtream Codes logins are stored only on the device you add them to: in the Keychain on Apple devices, and encrypted with the Android Keystore on Android and Fire TV. They’re never sent to us.
- Vistu talks to your provider, not to us. To load your channels, guide and streams, the app connects straight to the addresses you add. Your provider sees those connections as usual; we don’t.
- Your viewing stays local. Favourites, recents, Continue watching and the guide are kept on the device. We never receive what you watch.
Fire TV licences and your Vistu account
Vistu for Fire TV isn’t sold through an app store, so it uses a licence: a monthly or yearly subscription you buy in the Vistu app on iPhone, iPad or Android. You link it to a Vistu account with the code you’re given, then activate each Fire TV with an activation code. For that we keep:
- Your account: your email address and your password. The password is stored only as a salted hash, never in readable form.
- Your licence: its type (monthly or yearly, 1 or 5 active devices), when it was bought and linked, when it renews or ends, and the purchase reference from the App Store or Google Play that confirms it. Apple and Google handle the payment itself; we never see your card or payment details. They tell us when a subscription renews, is cancelled or is refunded, so the licence stays in step.
- Your activated devices: for each Fire TV, an identifier for that device, its model, its Fire OS and Vistu versions, when it was activated and when it last checked in. This is how a licence knows how many devices are active. You can see your devices in your account and deactivate one at any time to free its place for another.
Licence checks. Vistu on Fire TV checks in with our licence server when it starts and from time to time while it’s running, to confirm the device is activated and the licence is valid. A check-in sends the device identifier and licence details, not your playlists, logins, channels or anything about what you’re watching. Like any server, ours sees the internet address a check-in comes from; we use it only to keep the service secure and to stop misuse, and we don’t keep it longer than we need to for that.
Emails. We email you only about your account and licence: confirming your address, password resets, and changes to your licence or devices.
This website
- The support form. When you send a message we store what you enter: your name (optional), email, device, app version and message. We use it only to reply and to improve Vistu, and delete it when it’s no longer needed. If your message includes playlist links, we remove the login details from them before saving.
- Spam protection. To limit how many messages one address can send, we keep a one-way, keyed hash of your IP address with your message, not the address itself.
- Cookies. The site sets a cookie to protect forms from forged submissions and, if you sign in to manage your Vistu account, to keep you signed in. There’s no advertising or tracking.
- Your last channel. The home page opens on a random channel. So the next visit starts somewhere different, it remembers which one you saw last, as a single number kept in your browser’s local storage (
vistu-last-channel). It never leaves your browser and isn’t sent to us; clearing this site’s data removes it. - Fonts. Fonts are served by Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google when it loads them.
Sharing
We don’t sell your information or share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers to run Vistu (for example hosting and sending email), only for that purpose. Apple and Google process your purchase under their own privacy policies.
Your choices
- Remove a source in Settings › Sources to delete its details from your device, or uninstall Vistu to remove everything on that device.
- Deactivate a Fire TV on the TV itself, or remove one from your account if it’s broken, lost or stolen. It stops counting towards your licence and we delete its details (identifier, model and versions). We keep only a note that a place on your licence was freed, and when, for a year, because how often a place can be freed from the account is limited; then that’s deleted too.
- Delete your Vistu account from your account settings or through the support form. We delete your email, password hash and devices. We may keep a minimal record of a licence purchase where the law requires it.
- Ask for a copy of what we hold about you, or for it to be corrected, through the support form. To have a support message deleted, ask the same way.
